What Is It ? - What Can It Do ? - SSI Or Server Site Include.
Using SSI, you can dynamically embed content onto your webpage or even your entire site. It is a very handy feature and you don't need to know how to use Perl programming to harness and use SSI on your site!
What do I need to use SSI on my site?
Your web host must support SSI parsing on it's servers in order for you to be able to use SSI on your site. How can you find that out? Simple. Do the following SSI test.
1) Create a webpage, and put the code <!--#echo var="DATE_LOCAL"--> inside the <body> section of the page.
2) Save and name that page "test. shtml" Note the (shtml) extension.
3) Upload the page, and view it using your browser (NOT Your Editor).
4) If you see the current date displayed, your webhost supports SSI .
If you don't see the date, then most likely your web host does not support SSI . You may want to change to another host, as most do support CGI and SSI . Check with your admin. as they may just need to turn it on for you. Some host charge a small fee to turn SSI on.
